New Keyboard

Laser Etched Mechanical Goodness

I decided it was about time to get a new keyboard.
I definitely wanted as keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches as it would be mainly used for typing and programming.
But I couldn’t make up my mind on which keyboard to get, so I designed my own!
Here it is:

Custom Keyboard

Please ignore the noise from my amazing camera (iPhone)… and just pretend it’s The Walking Dead ;)
As you may see, I was inspired by the keyboard design of the Chromebook Pixel

For that Google feel, I used the font Roboto by Christian Robertson

Instead of the Windows logo there’s an App Grid, and on the context button there’s a Three Bar Menu icon.
Just like the Chromebook, I also decided to replace the Caps Lock button with a Search button,
This means… LESS RAGING

And with a little tweak to the registry on Windows I made my Caps Lock open the Search shell instead
Here’s what I changed – I’m using Windows 8.1 and it requires a reboot:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout]
"Scancode Map"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,02,00,00,00,6b,e0,3a,00,00,00,00,00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\17]
"ShellExecute"="shell:::{2559a1f8-21d7-11d4-bdaf-00c04f60b9f0}"

If you love it, hate it or think I’m crazy for picking them colors, then give it a share,
Buttons are below ;)

Blue Switch is not only the most annoyed switch (to others), but also the most fantastic switch (to typers)

  • Ramdas Ware

its really useful keyboard, awesome. :)

capslock search may just be the best thing ever… I might consider remapping mine now ;).
